Use this calculator to see how your percentages turn into a GPA, and whether your course credits or grading scale change your final result.
An Australian grade calculator converts each of your course marks (percentages or letters) into grade points using your university’s scale, then applies credit weights to give you an overall GPA. This shows you how both your grades and the number of credits per course affect your final number — which can matter for scholarships, entry into programs, or passing requirements.
To use it correctly:
- Enter your real grades
- Use the same grading scale for all courses
- Try changing one thing at a time to see what matters most
Australian Grading Scales
Australian universities use different scales. Here are the most common:
Common Scale 1: 7.0 (Most universities)
| Percentage | Letter Grade | GPA (7.0 scale) |
|---|---|---|
| 85–100% | HD (High Distinction) | 7.0 |
| 75–84% | D (Distinction) | 6.0 |
| 65–74% | C (Credit) | 5.0 |
| 50–64% | P (Pass) | 4.0 |
| Below 50% | F (Fail) | 0.0 |
Common Scale 2: 4.0 (Some unis, especially for exchange)
| Percentage | GPA (4.0 scale) |
|---|---|
| 85–100% | 4.0 |
| 75–84% | 3.0 |
| 65–74% | 2.0 |
| 50–64% | 1.0 |
| Below 50% | 0.0 |
Common Scale 3: 4.0 with plus/minus (Less common but exists)
| Percentage | Letter | GPA |
|---|---|---|
| 85–100% | A | 4.0 |
| 80–84% | A– | 3.7 |
| 75–79% | B+ | 3.3 |
| 70–74% | B | 3.0 |
| 65–69% | B– | 2.7 |
| 60–64% | C+ | 2.3 |
| 50–59% | C | 2.0 |
| Below 50% | F | 0.0 |
Important: Always check your own university’s scale before converting. An 84% at one uni might be a Distinction (6.0), while at another it could be a Credit (5.0).
